Story / Inspiration

The Air Max Uptempo family rose to prominence in the mid‑90s, an era defined by big personalities, big plays, and even bigger sneaker designs. The Uptempo line became iconic thanks to its bold visual language and its connection to some of the decade’s most influential athletes. The Air More Uptempo, released in 1996, was famously worn by Scottie Pippen, who laced them up during the Chicago Bulls’ historic 72‑10 championship season and again during the 1996 Olympics, where Team USA brought home gold.

Designed by Wilson Smith, the Uptempo series embraced oversized “AIR” branding inspired by pop art and graffiti, perfectly matching the 90s aesthetic of baggy clothes, loud colors, and maximalist energy.
